Description

Nelson Mandela Garden Playground: A Contemporary Play Hub in the City Center

Jardin Nelson Mandela, situated in the very center of Paris in the Halles district (1st arrondissement), presents a modern and vibrant green space that invites both relaxation and recreation. This 4-hectare garden, formerly known as Jardin des Halles, underwent a significant redesign and was renamed in 2013 to honor Nelson Mandela. Its central location, above the Forum des Halles, makes it highly accessible and a popular destination for both Parisians and tourists. Jardin Nelson Mandela features contemporary play areas thoughtfully designed to cater to children of various ages, ensuring that toddlers, young children, and older kids can all find engaging activities. A standout feature is the expansive 2,500 m² adventure playground specifically created for children aged 7 to 11 years. This exciting area includes a trampoline for bouncing fun, unique 'mégachines' described as trees to climb and rocket launch ramps for imaginative play, a spring bridge for an added element of challenge, and a Dino wall, likely offering climbing opportunities or imaginative play scenarios. For younger children and those interested in sports, the garden also offers a separate 400 m² playground equipped with a football field, basketball courts, and ping-pong tables, adding to the variety of activities available. Adding a touch of urban flair, this sports area was decorated by the street artist Romain Froquet. While the garden itself is open around the clock, the adventure playground operates with specific hours, generally opening at 10 am with closing times varying depending on the time of year. The presence of these extensive and modern play facilities in a central location underscores Paris's commitment to providing accessible and engaging recreational spaces for families.
